Obituary of Edith-Pritchett Daniel


Edith Pritchett DanielEdith Pritchett Daniel died at her Azalea Trace home in Pensacola on September 23, 2012. She was born on September 26, 1914 in Thomasville, Alabama, the daughter of Jere Pritchett and Edythe White Pritchett. She graduated from Montevallo College and taught school in Livingston, Alabama where she met Worth Daniel, her future husband. Edith continued her education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where she received a post graduate degree in microbiology. Edith and Worth were married after Worth's five year service during World War II. They moved to Oxford, Mississippi where Worth received a degree from the School of Pharmacology at the University of Mississippi. Edith worked as a microbiologist in Peoria and Chicago, Illinois until they moved to Moss Point, Mississippi where for nineteen years she was a laboratory technician at Singing River Hospital. Edith was an Episcopalian and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula, Ms. and the Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi, Ms. Until recently, she was physically active, enjoying hiking, cycling and swimming. Many happy years were spent in retirement when she and Worth began trailer-travelling in their Airstream in company with many other Airstream owners. For over twenty years, Edith enjoyed being a resident of Azalea Trace Retirement Community. She continued to attend Episcopal services there and remained a valued friend to many of the present day residents. She was preceded in death by her husband, Worth. She leaves behind her cousin James Carey of St. Augustine, Florida and his wife Lou as well as many friends. Special thanks are offered to the nursing staff at Azalea Trace for their kind attention to Edith during her recent illness.A memorial service will be celebrated at the Chapel of Azalea Trace at ten a.m. on Wednesday, October 2.Graveside services will be in Pascagoula at Jackson County Memorial Park at two p.m. on Friday, October 5. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Gifts in her honor may be made to the Waterfront Rescue Mission of Pensacola.Express your condolences in our guestbook at pnj.com/obits
