He was born June 24, 1939, in Springfield, Mo., to David and Freda (Payne) Dawson. To Doug, his wife and family was most important. Doug had a sense of humor, he never met a stranger. He was active in scouting as a scout master and a cubmaster and helped his son achieve Eagle Scout. He volunteered with the AARP Safe-driving program. He enjoyed geneology and outdoor activities.He was preceded in death by his parents.He is survived by his wife of 54 years Carol Dawson of the home; two children: Susan Camille Dawson-Harris and her husband Louis of Warsaw, Mo., and Douglas Dawson, Jr. and his wife Gerri of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers: David Dawson and his wife Linda of Ozark, Mo., and Daniel Dawson of Springfield, Mo.; his mother in-law Yvonne Bareford of Springfield, Mo.; as well as many other relatives and friends.Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be held from 11 to 12 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, MO. Online condolences may be made at www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.
