Obituary of Doris-Irene Foster


MUNRO, Doris Irene Athens, GA Doris Irene Munro, 86, died at home on October 10, 2009. Her daughter and granddaughter were with her and holding her hands. She fought many ailments gallantly, but especially against Parkinson's disease. Mrs. Munro was a retired tax consultant. She enjoyed bowling and golf. She was a member of Chapelwood Methodist Church and the Homick Sunday School class. She was a lifetime member of No. 6 Service Flying Training School Royal Canadian Air Force (Dunnville) Reunion Association. Mrs. Munro was a well traveled woman who lived in many places. She fell in love with Athens a little over two years ago, but more so, with the people the people fell in love with her. She did, however, miss her other friends far and away. Her Jack Russell, Heidi, made her laugh more than anything else did. Heidi stood vigil over Doris during her illness and her passing and she misses her. Born in Dunnville , Ontario , Canada on June 22, 1923 to Harry and Hazel Humphrey Foster. She is survived by her daughter, Shari McDonald and her children Tami Cilk (husband Chad) in Phoenix and Duane Shiffer (wife Grace) in Athens, son David McDonald (wife Cyndi) in Colorado Springs and their son Josh Stamps in San Diego; sister Myrtle Powell Johnston (husband Ron) in London, Ontario; grandson Dustin McDonald and five great-grandchildren, six nieces and two nephews. Preceded in death by three husbands; Lt.Col. Ernest McDonald (fighter pilot), Major Paul Gardella (bomber pilot), and Lt. Commander William Munro (Royal Canadian fighter pilot); two sons Larry Foster McDonald in infancy and Lawrence Foster McDonald ( Vietnam helicopter pilot), sister Mary Lou Claus, granddaughter Dawn McDonald. Memorial at Chapelwood Methodist Church , Janice Drive , Athens GA on 11/8/09 at 3:00 pm. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family asks that donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 , New York , New York , 10018 .
