Obituary of Doris-Evelyn Daniels

DANIELS, DORIS EVELYN (BURNS), 71, formerly of Louisville, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008, at her home in Lecanto, FL, with her family at her bedside. She was born May 17, 1936, in Saul, KY, spent much of her childhood and teen years in Scottsburg, IN, graduating from Scottsburg High School. She lived in Louisville most of her life, until she and her husband retired in 1997 and moved to Florida. She attended the University of Louisville and graduated from Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an RN for over 50 years, including 27 years at Louisville's Suburban Hospital. Even during retirement, she continued her service of caring for others and recently was working with Alzheimer patients in Citrus County Florida. She touched countless lives through her years of service and those who passed before her are welcoming her into Heaven. Aside from her passion for her family and nursing, she was an accomplished gardener and decorator. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and traveling with her husband. She also loved taking trips with her daughter and sisters (a.k.a. "the Ya Yas"). She is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Mershal Burns; sisters, Maggie Cartwright and Kay Murphy; and brother, Ronnie Burns. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Kenneth B. Daniels Jr., of Louisville; her daughter, Deborah Daniels Gardiner (David); her two sons, Kenneth Brock Daniels III and Stephen W. Daniels (Nicole). She leaves behind grandsons, Taylor and Evan Daniels; and stepgrandson, Jonathan Daniels. She also leaves behind three sisters, Jean Morgan, of Austin, IN, Carol Molina, of Montgomery, AL and Linda Hayes, of Lexington, IN; and three brothers, Steve Burns, Doug Burns and Don Burns, all of Scottsburg, IN. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, followed by a burial service at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 1-8 p.m. Monday at Highlands.
