Obituary of Charles Stark

Charles "Chuck" Stark, born 79 years ago in Marietta, Pa., died Feb. 27 at Orange Park Medical Center after an illness of several months. He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Lola Jeffords Stark; his daughter, Sharon Yelle, and husband, Leo; his son, Andrew Stark; his four grandchildren, Shaun, Tiffany and Stephanie Yelle and Sarah Stark; and great-granddaughter, Lily Luke. Chuck joined the U.S. Navy the day after graduating from high school and spent 20 years as a radioman, retiring in 1965 as a chief petty officer. During that time he was stationed aboard the USS Pawcatuck, spent two years in Panama and two years in Washington, D.C., where he met his wife-to-be. They spent a four-year honeymoon in Rome, where he was stationed at the U.S. Embassy as part of the naval attache and then spent four years recruiting for the Navy in Greeneville, Tenn. Following the shore duty, Chuck was chief of communications aboard the USS Wainwright until his retirement. Following retirement, he joined the Magnavox company in Greeneville, where he spent 20 years and became superintendent of Advanced Technology Group. The Starks moved to St. Augustine in 1986 for retirement, and Chuck joined VFW Post 2391. He was a very active member and helped plan its present facility, working tirelessly for the betterment of the post. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed giving away all the fruits and vegetables of his labor. A memorial service will be held at a later date at VFW Post 2391. Interment will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Remembrances may be sent to VFW Post 2391.
