Obituary of Charles Stark


CHARLES RICHARD"BUBBA" STARK1912 - 2006Charles Richard "Bubba" Stark, 94, of Pensacola passed away Friday, December 29, 2006.Mr. Stark was a native of Quantico, VA and resided in Pensacola for the past 60 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. During World War II, Mr. Stark served as Chief of the Air Traffic Control Tower at Washington National Airport and was one of the first four Air Traffic Controllers when the Federal Aviation Administration was formed.Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Thelma Stark; two daughters, Linda Stark and Jamie Stark Costa; brother, Sidney Ivan Stark; grandson, Gregory Richard Costa (Sally); granddaughter, Ashley Paige Costa (Tom Gay); great-grandson, Nolan Richard Costa; and his faithful dog, Corky.Mr. Stark enjoyed fishing in the Pensacola area waters for many years. He was an avid baseball fan who attended the Pensacola Pelican's baseball games. However, he lived and died for the Chicago Cubs.Mr. Stark was a jack-of-all-trades. He could build anything, or work on anything with an engine. He was a great teacher and role model to those who crossed his path. In his later years when he could no longer perform the physical work himself, he was a valuable source of knowledge for others.Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Reverend John Stacey officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior the service.Burial will be in Bayview Memorial Park.The family wishes to express their very heart-felt thank you to Dr. Amos Prevatt, Katherine Stuart, and to Covenant Hospice for all their love, care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in the name of C. R. Stark to Covenant Hospice 5041 North 9th Avenue Pensacola, Florida or to the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation P.O. Box 33104 NAS Pensacola, Florida 32508-3104.For our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and "fine guy", you will be truly missed, but never forgotten. "Hold it in the road"
