Obituary of Charles Barnes

ORMOND BEACH - Charles E. Barnes, 68, of Pine Cone Trail, who retired from the Volusia County School Board, died Thursday at home. Mr. Barnes, an Army veteran, was born in Eudora, Ark., and moved to this area in 1961 from Arkansas. He was an All-American in football for North Eastern Louisiana State and also played for the University of Arkansas. Mr. Barnes played professionally for the Toronto Rifles and was on the Daytona Thunderbirds football team. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountains. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Todd, Port Orange, and Eric, Orlando; a sister, Bonnie Smith, Arkansas; and three brothers, David and Bob, both of Arkansas, and Luther, Louisiana.
