Obituary of Carl-A. Erikson


Carl A. Erikson, 91, of Niskayuna, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Ellis Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born April 4, 1918 in Schenectady , son of Alfred G. and Helen Martin Erikson. Carl was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Katharin Horton Erikson, in 2006. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and the GE Apprentice Program. Carl worked 42 years at General Electric R & D Center and retired in 1980 as a tool maker. Carl was a member of GE Quarter Century Club, Whitney Club, volunteer with Grand Blvd. Fire Company, where he was a life member with over 50 years of active service, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Schenectady. Survived by one son, Carl E. Erikson of Schenectady; three grandchildren, Carl Erikson, Kirsten Doherty and Matthew Erikson; two great-grandsons; and one nephew. Predeceased by his sister, Ruth Short; and his son, Dennis A. Erikson. A funeral service will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady, on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Steven Clunn, Pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Friends and family are invited to the funeral home prior to the service for public visitation from noon on Wednesday. Burial will follow the service at the family plot at Historic Vale Cemetery in Schenectady.
