Obituary of Bertha-M. Lafrance


SOMERSWORTH — Bertha M. LaFrance, 90, formerly of 364 High St. and a current resident of St. Ann Health Care Center in Dover, died Friday March 18, 2005, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a brief illness.She was born in St. Helene de Chester in Canada on Nov. 30, 1914, and was the daughter of Philip and Maria (St. Pierre) LaFrance. She and her family moved to Newmarket from Canada in 1921 and settled in Somersworth in 1925 and for a time in Rhode Island before returning to Somersworth in 1930 where she remained for most of her life.Before retiring, she worked at the Somersworth Shoe Co. as a repairer with more than 40 years of service. She was a communicant of St. MartinCatholic Church.Family members include her brother, George LaFrance of Rochester; two sisters, Jeannette M. LaFrance of St. Ann Home in Dover and Mabel Cantin of Manchester; and several nephews and nieces.Friends may call Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church, West High and Maple streets. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth. The family respectfully declines flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Ann Health Care Center, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH 03820.
