Obituary of Bernard Chartrand


BERNARD CHARTRAND Peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2004 Barny passed away after a brief illness, with his family by his side, at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 76 years. Survived by his children: Irene Pashe, Joe (Bonnie), Connie MacCulloch (Brian), Ruby Legere (Alex), Brian (Doloris), Peter, Susan Main (Dave), Lawrence (Dawcy) and their mother Mary Chartrand; Reggie and Rodney Arcand; Crystal Kipling; two special nephews, Charlie and Wilson Whitford; and a special niece Hazel Whitford. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, great-grand-children, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Barny was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Mary Louise Chartrand (McIvor); his brother George; sister Marie Whitford; and son Clarence Chartrand at infancy. Barny was born and raised in Sandy Bay. He left there as a young man and lived and worked in all the western provinces. From an early age, he was musically inclined and developed his skill enough to start a band called "Midnight Aces". He earned his living as a fisherman, a fishing guide in Ontario and a maintenance worker. He spent his last few years living with his son Lawrence and his family. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses in the MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their special care and attention. A traditional two day wake will be held at the Elder Centre in Sandy Bay, starting Sunday, January 18 at 4:00 p.m. until the funeral service on Tuesday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Sandy Bay.
