->Moran, Barbara BastowBarbara Bastow Moran, age 96, formally of Groton NY, passed away May 19, 2011 at Kendal of Ithaca NY. A lovely and gracious lady, Barbara was born May 6, 1915 to Abram and Edna Bastow in Brooklyn NY. She graduated from Dobbs Ferry (NY) High School. She graduated from Alfred University in 1936 with B.S. in pre-med. She played varsity basketball and was a member of Pi Alpha Pi Sorority. She received her Master's in Nursing from Yale University in 1939. She was employed at the New Haven Hospital in New Haven CT until she volunteered into the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She served as a First Lieutenant in England and France until the war in Europe ended and was on her way to the Pacific when Japan surrendered. In 1946, Barbara married Edwin Moran, a U.S. Army Officer, of Groton NY. She loved to travel and during her Army wife's career, she established households from Okinawa to Berlin, Germany and six states in between. She was always ready to move and could easily pack up her family of six and move to the next Army post. She loved to garden and always established a beautiful landscaped home where ever she moved. Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Col. Edwin G. Moran, U.S. Army, Ret. in 2008. She is survived by a brother, Martyn Bastow; her children: a son, Michael (Gale) Moran; daughters, Barbara B. Moran, Marilyn Moran and Michele Moran; her grandchildren, Heather (Tim) Holland, Kelly (Jay) Stevens, Edwin B. Moran, Brook Anderson, Michael (Val) Anderson, Paige (Cy) Simeonoff, Katie Randolph, Peter (Angie) Czerkas and Corinne Gold. She also has 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Kendal at Ithaca for their love and care for her. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton has care of arrangements.
