HARRISON, Arthur Stanley Born, 12th February 1920 in Glasgow, Scotland. Died, 26th October 2012 in Victoria B.C. Canada. Arthur passed away peacefully in the Royal Jubilee Hospital with his family around him. He will be greatly missed. Arthur is survived by his loving wife Dora, sons Arthur (Beattie), Richard (Isabel) and daughter Sheila (Kevin), grandchildren Shona, Gregory, Ross, Ellen, Ricardo, Ian Eloy, and great-grandchildren Matthew, Logan and Payton. Arthur was a wonderful husband and father and was adored by many who had the privilege of knowing him. He was one of five brothers who all served during WW2, all returning home safely. Conscription had Arthur join the Green Howards in 1940. As part of the 8th Army he saw action in North Africa, El Alamein, Tripoli, Tobruk, Tunisia, Sicily, the invasion of Italy and finally with the Occupation Forces in Germany. It was while in Germany that he was to meet the love of his life, Dora. Arthur and Dora's life-long romance began as WW2 drew to a close. They enjoyed the most extraordinary and unique loving relationship that was filled with mutual respect and admiration throughout their 67 years together. They returned to Scotland, where they raised their 3 children in a home which was always a haven of peace, harmony and emotional security that only they could provide, for family, friends and those fortunate enough to know them. Their door was always open. On retirement in l987, Arthur and Dora arrived in Victoria in order to reunite with their family. Arthur spent many happy years of his life here and cherished his new found environment. He frequently enjoyed a game of snooker at Oak Bay Seniors Centre and was a well-liked and revered Oak Bay and Vancouver Island lawn bowler. His prowess and competitive spirit on the greens were renowned. Arthur loved and participated in many sports. He especially followed soccer, rugby, tennis and golf, and, had his own sporting heroes. Arthur's family would like to express special thanks to Beacon Community Services caregivers, RJH staff and all those at Veterans Affairs Canada. No service by request.
