Obituary of Alexander-Frank Ritchie


RITCHIE, Alexander Frank (Major Retired) Passed away at Nanaimo Hospital on July 25, 2009. Alexander is survived by his wife of 63 years Marjorie (nee: Guy), children; Beverley (David) Bennet, Patricia (John) Birtwistle and Valerie Neill (David Stevens), grandchildren; Erin, Meaghan, Sean and Kirsty, 1 great grandchild Avery and his sister Edna Mitchell (nee: Ritchie). A much decorated veteran of WWII, 1939 - 1945. Star; Star of France, Star of Germany, Defence Medal; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, War medal 1939 - 1945; United Nations Emergency Force Medal, International Commission for Supervision and Control Service Medal, Canadian Forces decoration and clasp; United nations Peacekeeping medal. Alexander belonged to the Canadian Military Police Association, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and the Canadian Legion. He also graduated with a B.A. degree from Carleton University. After retiring from the military he worked for National Museums of Canada and The Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of Yates Funeral Service, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, B.C. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Yates Funeral Service 1-877-264-3848.
