SAVANNAH, Ga. - Agnes Markwalter Brennan died peacefully in her home on November 1, 2012, the Feast of All Saints, surrounded by her loving family. Her faith and family were the cornerstones of her life. Agnes was born on February 8, 1929 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Agnes Sheehan and Charles Victor Markwalter. Agnes attended Catholic schools in Augusta and Georgian Court College in Lakewood, New Jersey. On October 6, 1956, she married Thomas Edward Brennan, Jr., formerly of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After a two year tour of duty in Germany, Agnes and Tom settled in Savannah, where they raised their family and made many wonderful friends. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Victor Markwalter, Jr. and Edward Aloysius Markwalter, and her sister, Ann Markwalter Leonard, as well as several brothers and sisters in law. Agnes is survived by Tom, her husband of 56 wonderful years, and their eight children and spouses: Mary and Liam Collins, Julie and Andrew Purkey, Tom and Jane Brennan, Sally and Brian Kennedy, Philip Brennan, Joe and Michelle Brennan, Peter and Anna Brennan, and Agnes and Pete Law. She is also survived by her 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Mary Markwalter Gambill, Jane Markwalter Eubanks, Louise Markwalter Wright, her brother, John Sheehan Markwalter and his wife Marcelene, all of Augusta, Georgia, as well as her sister-in-law and her husband, Libby and Dick Weinberg of Carpinteria, California. Agnes is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. This large and loving family brought Agnes great joy throughout her life. The Brennan family would like to thank those who assisted Agnes during these last few years of illness, especially her doctors, nurses, and wonderful technicians at Coastal Dialysis. They would also like to thank Pearl Riley for her many years of faithful service and friendship, and the priests of St. James Catholic Church, present and past, for their kindness to Agnes and the Brennan family. The visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, November 2nd at 4:30 followed by a Rosary at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning, November 3rd at 9:45, also at St. James Catholic Church, with burial to follow at the Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Social Apostolate of Savannah. Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Savannah, Ga.
