Obituary of Anne Sullivan

Anne Sullivan, a longtime resident of the Bronx, died on March 10, 2003. She was 102. Mrs. Sullivan was born on September 14, 1900 in Tempo, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland to the late Hugh and Mary (Cassidy) McPhillips. She was the third child of 14. She married Patrick Sullivan and emigrated to the United States in 1929. She graduated school with a culinary diploma, which was the basis of her future employment. She worked in numerous rectories for the NY Archdiocese as a cook for more than 50 years, her last being Our Savior's Church. She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church for more than 60 years. Mrs. Sullivan lived independently until age 96 when a minor illness required admission to Montefiore Medical Center. She remained there as a resident until her death. Mrs. Sullivan celebrated her century mark with relatives from Ireland, Canada, and the United States and was surrounded by her loving family always. Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her daughter, Julia Celiberti and her husband Frank; grandson Patrick Celiberti; granddaughter Donna McGrath and her husband Patrick; and great grandson Patrick, all of California. She is also survived by two brothers, Thomas (Anthony) McPhillips of New Rochelle and James McPhillips of Ireland; and two sisters, Elizabeth Magee of Canada and Agnes Sherrard of Ireland. She was a devoted aunt, great aunt, and great great aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Visiting will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at LLOYD MAXCY & SONS BEAUCHAMP CHAPEL, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 12 pm at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Bronx. Interment will take place in Tempo, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, 2345 University Avenue, Bronx, NY, 10468.
