Obituary of Albert-F. Roberts

A lifelong Peekskill resident, died Tuesday at his home. He was 76. He was the retired Proprietor of the Rainbow Grill in Peekskill. Mr. Roberts was born in Peekskill on October 13, 1925 the son of John and Elizabeth Harbolic Roberts. He served in the US Army during World War II, during which he spent several months as a Prisoner of War in Germany. Oley was also a retired employee of the New York State Department of Transportation. Prior to buying the Rainbow, he also worked for Brass Bowl, the Lido and Academy, all local bars in Peekskill. His family said that he would have a drink with anyone from the Governor of New York to the Homeless of Peekskill, and that he was a wonderful father and the best friend anyone could have. Mr. Roberts was a member of the Peekskill Lodge #744 Elks, the Catholic War Veterans of Peekskill, and was a former member of Washington Engine Co. #2 in the Peekskill Fire Department. He married Mary Simone at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill on September 18, 1948. Mrs. Roberts died in 1999. Survivors include a son Chuck (Paula) Roberts, of Buchanan, a daughter Donna Klarer, of Cortlandt Manor; brothers Edward, of Buchanan, Henry and James of Peekskill, and Francis of Fishkill, and three grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is predeceased by brothers, John, Anthony "Pants", Joseph, Lenny, Stanley, and Charles Roberts, and sisters Elizabeth Murphy and Marie Roberts. The Funeral Service is Friday at 11 am at EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose (www.efcarter.com) where friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospital Center, or the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
