Adelaide F. Amos, a lifelong Peekskill resident, died February 19, 2001 at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. She was 86. Mrs. Amos was an L.P.N. for the Marrs Nursing Home in Mohegan Lake for over 25 years before retiring in 1979. She was born August 14, 1914 in Peekskill to John and Elizabeth Tinsley Fipps. She graduated from Peekskill High School and the 1st class to graduate from B.O.C.E.S. Nursing School in Yorktown Heights. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she was a Deaconist, served on the Missionary Board and the Pastors Aid Society. She also worked as a private duty nurse in the Peekskill area for many years and was a foster grandparent. Mrs. Amos is survived by a daughter, Irma Ruff of Peekskill, her devoted granddaughter, Loleita O'Brien of Cortlandt Manor, two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen (Golena) and Cornielus (Margaret) Amos, both of Newburg, two sisters, Elaine Disnuke of Newburg and Emline Dunham of Peekskill, 10 devoted grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 daughters, 3 grandsons, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the E.O. CURRY FUNERAL HOME, 313 No. James St., Peekskill on Thursday from 2-4pm and at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on Thursday from 7-9pm.
