Pioneers of the Truteau family

Étienne Truteau-Trudeau was baptized on September 15, 1641 in Sainte-Marguerite de la Rochelle, France. Son of François Trudeau and Catherine Martinier, he married Adrienne Barbier, daughter of Gilbert and Catherine Delavaux, on January 10, 1667 in Montreal. 14 children were born from this union. Arrived in the country in 1659 aboard the Saint-André, as a hired carpenter, he settled in Montreal. He was attacked by the Iroquois on May 6, 1662, and resisted them until reinforcements arrived. In 1697, he was recognized as deaf. He died in Montreal and was buried there on July 22, 1712.
