History and origin of the Leger family

Jean Léger-Lagrange was born on June 19, 1663 in Abiac, Dordogne, France. Son of Élie Léger and Jeanne de Phélis, he married Louise Fauvel, daughter of Pierre and Marie Parenteau, on November 1691 in Quebec. They had 5 children. Though he came here in 1691, he often travelled to France. This pionneer was a jack-of-all-trades exerting multiple trades like : surgeon, trader, privateer, Capitaine de flûte. He had fought the English with Iberville and he made his fortune through shipments seized during his expeditions. Widower, he remarried with Marie Desréaux on February 21, 1708 in La Rochelle, France. No child is born form this union. He died in La Rochelle, France on June 16, 1721.

Adrien Léger was born circa 1631 in Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Duclair, Seine-Maritime, France. Son of Louis and Perrette Lacaille, he married Catherine Lothier, daughter of Adrien , master painter, and Anne Desdames, on November 25, 1659 in Montreal. From this union were born a girl. He settled in Montreal in 1657. On January 11, 1661, he is killed by a falling tree in Pointe-St-Charles. He was buried the next day in Montreal.
