Jean-Baptiste Leclerc-Francoeur was born around 1659 in St-Nicolas, Brittany, France. Son of Jean Leclerc and Perrine Merceron, he married Madeleine Langlois, daughter of Jean and Marie-Charlotte Belanger, on November 22nd, 1691 in Saint-Pierre, Île d'Orléans. From this union were born 9 children. This soldier of Mr. de Cloches’ company settled down at Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and joins René Lepage from Rimouski, in order to make deals. He would have done credit to savage people and would even gave them his last shirt, which earned him the nickname Francoeur. He died on January 8th, 1709 in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli.
