Pierre Darraspe the first ancestor in America married 1774 St Pierre and Miquelon Islands off the coast of Newfoundland to Anne Mancel d/o Robert in the marriage contract he was a captain for a whaling vessel he was born in St Jean de Luz in Bayonne Basque country I found his marriage in the Microfilms and much information he was presumed lost at sea since when his daughter born in 1887 he was baptized he was already presumed dead in the volume Les Acadiens aux Iles St Pierre & Miquelon 1758-1828 his family is mentioned on page 269 with a few errors he was Pierre Darraspe ( not Daranve) his widow remarried to Pierre Turnier ( not Fournier) she was the daughter of Robert Mancel ( not Manuel) and Jeanne Goupil ( not Douville ) so much for mr.Poirier's book only one son married Bertrand in 1808 in Margaree, Cape Breton Nova Scotia and had 12 children he obtained a land grant which he later sold in 1835 and moved to the Magdelen Islands with his family he had a total of 65 grandchildren I believe the spelling became Derasp / Derapse /Deraps etc..... my maternal grandfather was John s/o Hypolite s/o Robert /son of Bertrand born on 1784 you are most welcomed to make additions to this contribution Renee Tetreault june 2013
