Pioneers of the Ashe family

Michel Haché-Larché-Gallant is born around 1663, in St-Jean Island, Acadia. He is assumed as the son of Pierre Larché and an unknown Native American woman. He married Anne Cormier, daughter of Thomas and Marie-Madeleine Girouard, around 1690 in Acadia. Twelve children were born from this union. First known as a domestic, then possibly captain of militia of Beaubassin, he became captain of Port-La-Joie, after settled down there around 1720. He died by drowning on April 10th, 1737, at the mouth of the Rivière du Nord. He was buried on July 17 in Port-La-Joie, after his body was found.

Origin of last name Ashe

HACHÉ-GALLANT - Haché possibly is the alteration of 'ACHE', from the Germanic name 'ACHARI', from 'ac' which means 'blade' and 'hari' which means 'army'. Or, it could be a variant of Larcher, agglutination of the 'archer', nickname of the soldier who carries the arc. Gallant comes from the old "gallant," which means bold, lively, valorus.
