René Béchard was born around 1666 in Les Cars, Limoges, Haute-Vienne, France. Son of Pierre Béchard and Anne Gallet, he married Marie-Anne Vaillancourt, daughter of Robert and Marie Gobeil, on February 13th, 1691 in Ste-Famille, Ile d'Orleans. From this union were born seven children. He settled first in Beaupré, then bought a land in Saint-Jean, Île d'Orléans. He remained there until 1702, when he took possession of a new land in La Durantaye. This is where he died on August 13th, 1715.
