History and origin of the Labrecque family

Pierre Labrecque was born about 1626 in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime in France. Son of Jacques Labrecque and Jeanne Baron, he contracted a first marriage with Gabrielle Barre, in front of the notary Audouart. This contract was subsequently canceled. On January 2nd, 1663 in Château-Richer, he married Jeanne Chotard, daughter of Jacques and Suzanne Gabaret. From this union were born 4 children. This sailor arrived in the country around 1658. He settled first in Montmorency then to the Île d'Orléans. We do not know the exact date of his death that occurs after February 22, 1694.

LABRECQUE - derived from 'Labrèche' nickname given to the soldier who opened a breach in a fortification (perhaps a gunner). Or, the name given to somebody who comes from 'La Brèque', the name of a place in Seine-Maritime, France.
