Obituary of Virginia M. Welch

Virginia M. (Johnson) Welch, age 90, of Braintree, died peacefully, Friday, January 11, 2013 at the South Shore Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Quincy, raised in Houghs Neck and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1940. She has lived in Braintree for over fifty years. Virginia was a homemaker but as a young woman, during World War II, she worked in the administrative offices for the Bethlehem Steel Company at the former Fore River Shipyard. She previously had worked at the former Walter Baker Chocolate Company in Dorchester Lower Mills. She enjoyed crafts and was a longtime member and past regent with the Catholic Daughters of America. Beloved wife of the late James F. Welch. Devoted mother of Virginia M. Hargadon and her husband Michael of Annapolis, Maryland, James J. Jay Welch and his wife Susan of Carver, Michael E. Welch of Virginia, Theresa A. Rogers and her husband Thomas of Abington. Loving grandmother of Caitlin, Heather, Lindsay, Taylor Elizabeth, Taylor James, Christopher and Kyle. Dear sister of the late Bernard Johnson, Martha DiMarzio, Gladys Ford and Leo Johnson. Sister-in-law of Ralph Ford of Taunton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, was held on Tuesday, January 15th. Funeral Mass was in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree. Visiting Hours were at the funeral home Monday. Interment was at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
