Obituary of Victor-Edward Hebert


SOUTH HADLEY - Victor Edward Hebert, 88, of Shadowbrook Estates and formerly along time Northampton resident, died Saturday at Wingate at South Hadley. Born December 7, 1917, in Northampton, MA, he was the son of the late Arthur A. and Mary Louise (Perry) Hebert. He attended the former St. Michael's School in Northampton. He was an Army veteran of WWII.Mr. Hebert worked in liquor sales and management for many years in the area. He had been manager of the former Berniers Liquor Store in Northampton and also the former C & C Liquor Store in Amherst. He and his wife also were area managers for the Dutchmaid Clothing Company of Ephrata, PA, and he had also worked as a cab drive for Jack Fortier. He retired in 1980 and moved to Pine Island Lake, Westhampton. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Holyoke, had been a very active member of the former Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hatfield. Mr. Hebert and his wife were also among the twelve founding families of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, particularly in the Caribbean. They spent their winters in Florida for many years. Mr. Hebert was also active in many Amherst area civic organization including the Amherst Lions Club. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Lillian (Zapka) Hebert; a son Wayne Hebert and his wife Virginia of Naples, FL; a daughter Gretchen and her husband Randy Conklin of Amherst; four grandchildren Wanye Hebert, Jr., Andrew Hebert, Sharri Conklin Toal and Shane Conklin; one great-grandson, Owen Toal; and a brother Arthur R. Hebert formerly of Florence. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Holyoke with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Florence. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Pease and Gay Funeral Home, 425 Prospect Street, Northampton.
