Obituary of Vera-Margaret Dawson

(nee Dawson) February 9, 1913 - November 9, 2002 Passed away peacefully at her home for the past 4 1/2 years, the West End Villa. Beloved daughter of the late Sherman and Annie (Emery) Dawson. Dear, loving and caring wife of Anderson (Andy); mother of Barry (Barbara and previously Carole) of Toronto, Wendy (Robert and previously Germain) and Brian (Audrey), all of Ottawa; Nana to Heather, Christine, Gabriel, Thaddeus, Amos and Maria; great Nana to Amanda, Edward, Tyler and Jason. Predeceased by brothers Norman and Kenneth. Vera was born and brought up in "The Burgh". An avid sportswoman, she excelled in tennis, being city and district champion in the 40's and represented Ottawa in many national and international tournaments. She was a founding and active member of the City View Mixed Bowling League until her illness. Vera served as secretary at St. Richard's Anglican Church for many years. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at the West End Villa especially those on the 2nd and 4th floors for their love and care of Vera during her illness. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Tuesday, November 12th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 13th from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service then to follow at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 125 Mckay Street, Ottawa at 2 p.m. with Canon Keith Calder officiating. Interment Beechwood Cemetery. Reception at St. Bartholowmew's Anglican Church hall. Donations to the Alzheimers Society of Ottawa-Carleton, 1750 Russell Road, Suite 1742, Ottawa, Ontario, or the Family Support Group, Extendicare West End Villa, 2179 Elmira Drive, Ottawa, would be appreciated.
