Obituary of Thomas A. Waldron

Thomas A. Waldron 1945 - 2013 AGAWAM - Tom Waldron, 67, passed away Sunday morning of May 26th at Heritage Hall in Agawam. Tom was born on June 19, 1945 and grew up in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield. Upon graduation from Cathedral High School, Tom earned a degree in Education from Westfield State College. Then, after several years teaching in the Chicopee school system, Tom went to WNEC where he earned a law degree in May 1973. From that time onward, he practiced law. Tom often described himself as a loner; yet seemingly everywhere, Tom would be greeted warmly by friends. Tom's close friend Patty Parker has known Tom since high school at Cathedral High: "I had not seen Tom in 40 years (since our high school days). But I never did forget that handsome charismatic young man. One day a couple of years ago he walked into my flower shop and from that moment on we became fast and great friends. Tom was a person always there to listen and give great advice. I also shared lots of laughs with Tom and will miss him terribly." At age nine, Denise Coughlin met Tom for the first time. She had been recently orphaned and Tom was hired by her uncle to handle the estate. When she was 19, she hired Tom again on another matter: "From that moment, Tom guided me through good and bad times and was always a supportive friend that I could count on for good advice." Today, Denise has a career as a hospice nurse. By good fortune, she happened to pay a personal visit to Tom on his last day. When urged by a family friend to go home and get some sleep, Denise responded: "He was there for me my whole life. With his son's approval, I will not move from here." (Consequently, she shared his last moments.) Tom was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous during the last 26 years of his life. He was a frequent friend, sponsor, confidante and mentor to those seeking recovery. Many of these friends have expressed deep gratitude for his help over the years. It seems ironic that this self-described loner left friendship, good will and self empowerment to so many as an enduring legacy. Tom is survived by his sons Anthony of NYC and Christopher of Miami. He is also survived by his nephew Michael Waldron, Michael's wife Laura and their three children. In accordance with Tom's wishes, no funeral services will be held. In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to a worthy cause.
