Obituary of Suzanne Raymond

Suzanne R. Trahant -- Services for Mrs. Owen Trahant Jr., the former Suzanne Raymond, 62, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Steve LeBlanc officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum. Visiting hours will be observed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. today with rosary being recited at 8 p.m. at David Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service. A native of New Orleans and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Trahant died at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at her residence. Mrs. Trahant began her teaching career at St. Michael's School in New Orleans. Upon moving to New Iberia in 1975 she continued her teaching in Special Education with the Iberia Parish School Board for 25 years. For a majority of those years, she taugh at New Iberia Freshman High, now Westgate High School. She was a volunteer at the Shadows-on-the-Teche. She is survived by her husband Owen J. Trahant Jr. of New Iberia; three daughters, Marie Andree' Trahant of New Orleans, Renee' Anne Trahant and Nicole Monique Trahant Landry and her husband Shane, all of New Iberia; one granddaughter, Mallory Louise Landry of New Iberia; and one grandson, Ethan Louis Landry of New Iberia. Mrs. Trahant was preceded in death by her father, Fernand J. Raymond; mother, Marie Louise Heider Raymond Braud; and step-father, Oray Braud. Pallbearers will be Danny Blakely, Jacques LeBlanc, Dan LeBlanc Jr., Braxton LeBlanc, Joey Matranga and Miles Reaney. Honorary pallbearers will be V.A. Matranga, Marion Ballas, Sidney Raymond, Shane Landry and Kurt Heider. Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Trahant's name to St. Michael's Special School, 1522 Chipawa Street, New Orleans, LA 70115; and/or Iberia Parish Special Olympics, 418 School Board Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560.
