Obituary of Susan-Jean Barnabe


RN, BScN, MA(Ed). In the loving company of her family on Monday, June 18, 2001. Beloved wife and best friend of Jim. Adored mother of Paula and Peter. Daughter of Frances Barnabe. Dear sister and closest confidant of Jo Logan (Richard) and sister of Peter Barnabe (Marion). Daughter-in-law of Alex and Peggy Robblee. Friend and sister-in-law of Neil Robblee (Sue), Jeannie Hayley (Rod) and Nancy Hoskin (Robert). Cherished aunt of Valerie and Douglas Logan, Christopher, Joseph and Deidre Barnabe, Colin, Spencer, Ian and Jimmy Robblee, Dory and Ned Haley and David and Michelle Hoskin. Predeceased by her father, Lorne Barnabe. Susie dedicated her nursing career to expanding the role of the professional nurse, first in the Ottawa Civic Hospital and recently in the merged Ottawa Hospital. She was a skilled educator, known for her sense of humor and her ability to create enthusiasm for the subject at hand. She believed in life-long learning for nursing professionals and supported the higher education objectives of her colleagues. In her memory, a scholarship endowment fund has been established to support Ottawa Hospital and Heart Institute nurses who choose to pursue higher educational goals at the Masters or PhD level. The family would like to express special thanks to the nurses, doctors, allied health personnel, patient care attendants and other staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic site who worked so tirelessly to care for Susie during her final illness. She would have been particularly gratified by the professionalism of the nursing staff who cared for her and for her family. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, Ottawa, on Wednesday, June 20th from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, June 21st from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at St. George's Roman Catholic Church, 415 Piccadilly Avenue (at Bassett Street), Ottawa, on Friday, June 22, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Private cremation. those who wish may make an inmemoriam donation to the Susan Robblee Scholarship Fund through the Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
