Obituary of Sarah-Isabelle Wallace


After a two year battle with cancer, Sarah Isabelle Willard of New Liskeard died January 3, 2008 at the Temiskaming Hospital. During her battle she was always positive, uncomplaining and fighting to the end. She was born in Hudson Township on September 24, 1932 to George and Anna Wallace and educated at Hudson Consolidated School, Hudson Twp. She married Gordon Willard at the St. Paul’s United Church Manse in New Liskeard September 1, 1951. Mrs. Willard was a telephone operator for Northern Telephone prior to her marriage and then a full time wife, mother and grandmother. Her first priority was always her family. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends, travelling to places like Scotland, Spain, Mexico, Hawaii, Barbados and the Bahamas. Mrs. Willard was an unfailing supporter of her children and grandchildren in all activities in and out of school. A member of St. Paul’s United Church, she enjoyed knitting, sewing and embroidery and provided many a gift made with love to family and friends. Mrs. Willard is survived by her husband Gordon Willard; daughters Brenda Mercier (husband Joe), Gayle Beaulieu (husband Bob), Darlene Phillips (husband Mark); grandchildren Sarah Cherry (husband Chris) of Barrie, Michael Beaulieu, Jeffrey Mercier, David Mercier, Laura Phillips and Zachary Phillips; sisters Margaret Wilson of Coldwater, Ontario, Mary Saylor, Grace Young of Snow Lake, Manitoba, Ruth Wallace-Smith (husband Andy); and brother Joe Wallace. She was predeceased by sisters Betty Christianson, Elsie Wadge, Jean Carpenter and Anne Spencer. The funeral was held at Perrin Funeral Chapel, conducted by Reverend Frank Cummins, on January 5. Pallbearers were grandsons Michael Beaulieu, Jeffrey Mercier, David Mercier, Zachary Phillips and great-nephews Jason Willard and Joshua Jackson. Burial is in the spring at Pioneer Cemetery in New Liskeard. Relatives and friends from out of town attending the funeral came from North Bay, Virginiatown, Timmins, Guelph, Elora, Fergus and Freeport Bahamas.
