Mr Robert James Welsh - September 24, 2008 - Passed away suddenly at home on September 24, 2008 at the age of 77. Born in Islington Trinity Bay Newfoundland in 1931 and came to Toronto in 1949 where he married his loving wife of 56 years Lillian. Proud father of Linda (Don), Brian (Grace), Gordon and Karen Smales (Ian). Beloved poppy of Heather, Keri-Anne, Ryan, Erin, Daniel, Tyler, Scott and Morgan. Cherished great-grandfather of Matthew, Montanna and Sara. Predeceased by his parents Belah Welsh and Ethel (Peddle) Welsh. Robert was the oldest of 12 children. Survived by Maxwell (Jessie), Minnie (Charlie), George (Ina), Vera (Richard), Ida (Max), Mable (Lloyd), Belah Jr. (Alva) and Phyllis. Predeceased by siblings Edith, Stephen and Earl. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Robert worked at the Continental Can Company of Canada in downtown Toronto and Atlantic Packaging in Scarborough. Through his experience in the paper industry it took him to different countries where he made many lasting friends along the way. Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Scarborough and Newfoundland. He loved the outdoors and as a family spent many summers cottaging and camping up north. Additionally, Robert enjoyed golfing, traveling and was very committed to his family. The family will receive friends at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village (Ajax) 905-428-8488 from 7-9 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. until time of service in the chapel at 4 p.m. on Saturday September 27, 2008. Cremation. Should family and friends so desire, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated. A book of condolence may be signed below.
