Obituary of Mary-Kathryn Macpherson


SCHURMAN, Mary Kathryn SCHURMAN, Mary Kathryn - 101, passed away March 23, 2008, in Saint Vincent's Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Murray MacPherson and Margaret Jane (Sutherland) MacPherson Walsh. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a former resident of Truro and Middleton. She was a graduate of Normal College, Truro, and taught in many Nova Scotia Communities, retiring in Middleton. She was a life member of the Clan Macpherson and a life member of the Annapolis Valley Historical Society; also an Honorary Life Member of the Alumni Association of Nova Scotia Teachers' College. Mary was an avid reader and a music enthusiast. She was active in church work and her community. Surviving are nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by all, especially nieces and nephews, Jackie (Ron) Lohnes; Heather Dionne, Marc, Ben, Mary and Karen Lohnes, to whom she was very special. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Ambrose Schurman; a sister and a stepbrother. She was a member of St. John's United Church, Halifax. Respecting her wishes, her body has been donated to science in care of the Anatomy Department at Dalhousie University. A committal service will take place at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. A special thank you to the caring staff of Saint Vincent's Nursing Home. Memorial donations can be directed to a charity of choice.
