Obituary of Mary-Ida Noonan

WESTFORD -- Mary Ida (Noonan) Tanguay, 95, of Westford, former longtime resident of Fitchburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, in The Westford House, Westford, after an illness. She was born on Dec. 24, 1909 in Lowell, the daughter of Patrick and Ida (Riley) Noonan and had lived in Fitchburg since 1936, moving to Groton over eight years ago. Mrs. Tanguay was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell in 1936 and was a registered nurse for 15 years retiring several years ago.She had been an active member of the Fitchburg Art Museum where she had taught classes in portrait painting and was active in community affairs in the City of Fitchburg. She was also an active member of the Fitchburg Rotary Club and a member of the past president’s club. She was a longtime member of St. Camillus de Lellis Church, Fitchburg.Mrs. Tanguay leaves her son, Robert H. Tanguay of Gloucester; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Irelan of Groton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Her husband, Harold Tanguay, died in 1989. She was also predeceased by her brother, Francis James Noonan of Burlington, and her sister, Rita Kenneally of Falmouth.TANGUAY -- On Aug. 9, Mary Ida (Noonan) Tanguay, 95, of Westford. The funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, from Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg, with the interment to follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are Friday afternoon Aug. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust, P.O.
