Obituary of Mary-Catherine Macpherson

WOOD, Mary Catherine (nee MacPherson) Beloved mother of Doug, Joan, Joe and Joy, passed away on Wednesday May 28, 2003, at the Niagara Falls General Hospital, after suffering failing health over the past two months. Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Mary was a daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca (MacLean) MacPherson. She married the late James Vernon Wood on January 13, 1943. She raised her children and supported her husband's career in the Royal Canadian Air Force while traveling to various Air Force locations in Canada, England and France, before retiring to Athens and then Smiths Falls, Ontario. Since 1982, Mary lived in Brampton and St. Catherines, Ontario. Mary is also predeceased by her sisters and brothers: Mary, Margaret, Veronica, Alex, Joseph, Harvey, Jimmy, Roddy, Alphonsus, Louis and 4 siblings in infancy. She is survived by her four children: Douglas Wood (England), Joan (Mrs. Tim Crowther, Niagara), Joe Wood (Thunder Bay) and Joy (Mrs. Tom Thompson, Cornwall) and a sister, Theresa (Mrs. Frank Cormier, Antigonish, NS); 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Crowther; Riley, Jonathan and Emma Wood; James and Terri Thompson; and Sean Wood; 3 great grandchildren Joseph and Elisabeth Wood and Gabriel (Crowther) Nobles; and her dearest friend Rudy Schmahl of St. Catharines. Mary will reside at the Lannin Funeral Home in Smiths Falls on Saturday, May 31st, 2003 from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The requiem mass will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Smiths Falls on Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. In memory of Mary, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
