Obituary of Katherine Sullivan Abrams

Katherine (Katie) Sullivan Abrams FALMOUTH Katherine (Katie) Sullivan Abrams passed away on October 22, 2009 at Brigham &Women's Hospital after a brief illness. She retired to Falmouth in 2001 as a full time resident, having been a summer resident of Megansett for many years. She and her family lived in Sudbury, MA for over 25 years. Katie was born in Auburn, NY to Charles M. Sullivan and Elizabeth M. (McKendrick) Sullivan. She loved the city of Auburn and her many friends there. She was a graduate of Cornell University, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, and she was active in the Cornell Alumni Association. Her long career in the computer industry began as a systems engineer with IBM, in Rochester, NY. She went on to become Vice President of Development with SimSci Corp. in Brea, CA, and Director of Development with Foxboro Corp. She also held positions at Prime Computer and ComputerVision. Politics was one of her passions and she was an active Democrat. She was delighted to have been elected a Falmouth Town Meeting member, and recently completed a 3 year term as president of the Sippewissett Association. She leaves her family and friends with many happy memories of Cape Cod family get-togethers and friendly evenings of bridge. For the past few years she enlivened the neighborhood 4th of July costume parade, marching in her Superwoman shirt and twirling her high school marching baton. She greatly enjoyed classical music and took full advantage of the many musical events available in the area. She will be deeply missed by her family, including her beloved husband of 41 years, Irwin Abrams; her daughter, Elizabeth Sullivan Reid (Dan), grandson Sam and granddaughter Margaret, of Durham, NC; her son, Michael Sullivan Abrams (Erin), granddaughter Sullivan, and grandson Jack, of Glendale, CA; her sister Marianne Sullivan-Omark (Stephen) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her niece, Katherine Nolan, of Lynn, MA; her sister in law, Sylvia Melman (Nathan) of Levittown, PA; her brother in law Marvin Abrams (Sheila) of Suffern, NY; and many loving nieces and nephews. The funeral and memorial service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home at 584 Route 28A, West Falmouth, MA, with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Falmouth. The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601 in Katies memory.
