NOONAN, Joseph Leo Michael BA, B.Ed, M.Ed ~ At the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital, St. Catharines on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 54 1/2 years to Claire Marie (Morris) Noonan. Loving father of Timothy (the late Yumi) Noonan, Marie Noonan, Kerry (Michael) Valentine, Deirdre (Paul) Vedova and Patrick Noonan. Predeceased by his son Sean Noonan (1990). Grandpa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Keeleigh, Daniel, Nicholas, Conor, Jack, Matthew and Ciara. Dear brother of Mary Kelly. Predeceased by brother Roger Des Jardine, sister Genevieve Shaughnessy and nephew Ernie Des Jardine. Joe began his career in education with the Crowland Township School Area #1 as a Physical Education Supervisor. In 1955, he taught at St. Charles School in Thorold. Joe was the founding principal of St. Christopher's School in St. Catharines, marking the beginning of his career as principal in Catholic schools, which spanned 30 years with the Lincoln County Roman Catholic School Board. He also sat on various boards, including the Thorold Township Roman Catholic Separate School Board, where he was on the committee for the formation of the Welland County Roman Catholic Separate School Board. He later became a member and chairman with the newly formed Niagara Catholic District School Board. While serving on the Thorold Board, Joe was their representative on the Denis Morris Board of Governors where he served for 22 years. Joe also sat on the Regional and Thorold Council, the Niagara Escarpment Commission and the Bruce Trail Association. Joe was a WWII Veteran, member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #17, Thorold and a Member of the Sacred Heart Council #2319 Knights of Columbus. Joe's family will receive family and friends at the LAMB-BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent St., Thorold on Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 21 Queen St. S., Thorold on Friday at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Inurnment at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold. Royal Canadian Legion Br. #17, Thorold will conduct a Legion Service for Comrade Joe on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Vigil prayers will be celebrated at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with the Sacred Heart Council #2319 Knights of Columbus present.
