Obituary of Joseph-Leo Maurice

MAURICE, Joseph Leo "Ghislain" On June 10, 2003, Cst. Ghislain Maurice of Sherwood Park, AB passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident. He leaves to be devastated by his loss, his loving wife Kathy, their three year old daughter, Emilie and their unborn child, his parents, Jean-Pierre and Marie-Paule Maurice, Hull, Quebec, his older brother, Luc (Asako) and daughter Mireille, older sister Lyne (Richard) Fortin and Marie-Pier and Alexendre, and younger sister Josee (Robert) Botelho with Maxime, Olivier and Audrey. He also leaves to mourn his loss, his parents-in-law Rick and Susan Cameron and sister-in-law Laura Cameron, all of Seebe, AB and sister-in-law Teresa (Mike) Karach and son Michael all of Drayton Valley, AB, very special friend Darren (Judy) Anderson, whom he loved like a brother and many other family and friends too numerous to mention. Ghislain (Gus) was born on January 30, 1968 in Hull, Quebec. In 1989 he completed training at R.C.M.P. Depot Division where he was then posted to Evansburg, AB. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Kathy. In 1992, they were posted to Cardston, Alberta where they met many lifelong friends and in 1996, Ghislain did a 6-month mission to Haiti with the U.N. On May 15, 2000 they were posted to Sherwood Park where he remained until his untimely death. Ghislain was first and foremost a family man. He loved his wife and daughter with a deep passion. With them is where he wanted to be and he was never so happy as when they were together. He was bringing up Emilie in a bilingual home and was so excited to do the same with his unborn child. Ghislain was next a true friend. He has built many decks, renovated houses and was always the first person to be called when something needed to be done. He loved to joke around and was known as a real prankster to all that knew him. He could many times be found at the gym with his close friend Wally or on the golf course with Darren. Finally Ghislain was a police officer. He was professional, meticulous and he was very proud of his many accomplishments within the force. He was the best at what he did and when he was working he gave 100%. Ghislain wanted to make the world a better place, and he did. Ghislain is leaving a hole in our hearts and our lives that can never be replaced. "We love you Ghis. You live on in your children." Prayers will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Sunday, June 15, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Right Reverend John Hamilton will celebrate a Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park, on Monday, June 16, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with cremation to follow. Friends who so wish may make memorial donations directly to the Stollery Children's Hospital, 8401-11402 University Avenue, T6G 2B7.
