Obituary of John Shaver

LEOMINSTER -- John T. Shaver, 49, of 79 Park St., died Thursday, Dec. 28, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster following an illness. John was born in Uchitomari, Okinawa, and raised in Leominster, moving to Clinton in 1979. He was a graduate of St. Bernard’s High School, Fitchburg, and attended St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine. Until the time of his death, John worked as a shift supervisor for Micron Products of Fitchburg. John was a coach, umpire and past president of both the Clinton Minor League and the Clinton Little League. He was a coach for the Clinton Youth Soccer League and the Clinton Pop Warner Football League. John was also a coach and umpire for the Clinton Lassie League, and president and league director for the Central Mass Pop Warner Football League. Well-known and respected for his dedication to youth, he was a recipient of the Clinton Leprechaun Society Award, and was honoree of the 1999 Clinton Tribute Road Race. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Margaret E. (McAuliffe) Shaver; a son, Patrick T. and his wife, Danielle E. Shaver, of Bedford; a daughter, Colleen M. Shaver of Manchester, N.H.; his parents, Arthur T. and Mary K. (Hackett) Shaver; and a brother, Michael A. Shaver, all of Leominster; and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. SHAVER -- A funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2, from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Monday, Jan. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Clinton Youth Football, c/o Buzz Labbe, 85 Birch St., Clinton, MA 01510.
