John Howard Webster, age 72, of Scituate, died Saturday Sept. 6, at home with family nearby. He was born in Waldwick, N.J. on Oct. 19, 1941, son of the late George and Beatrice Webster. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1959 and was part of the 2nd Anglico Force Troops at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He trained in an airborne unit and served as a paratrooper during the Cuban missile crisis. He was discharged with honors in April 1965, at which time he was ranked Lance Corporal. Prior to his military discharge, he began working for Pepsi in 1963 as a route driver. He progressed in his career and was promoted to a manager, Vice President, Franchise Owner, and eventually, CEO of a Bottling Co-Op. He retired in 2013 with over fifty years of service with Pepsi. He was also an organizer and contributor of many charity events. John was a long time Trustee of the South Shore Hospital Charitable Foundation and played a key leadership role in bringing world class cancer care to the region as a major benefactor. He enjoyed motorcycles and vintage automobiles, boating, and building or fixing anything he could get his hands on. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Chilik Webster, loving father of twin boys, Darin J. Webster and Kevin C. Webster and his wife Lindsay, both originally from Scituate. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia and the late Dr. Marshall Clapp of Pompton Plains, N.J., a brother George and the late Judith Webster of Mahwah, N.J., a brother Franklin Webster and his wife Kathy, of Waldwick, N.J., and a brother, the late William Webster and his wife Jean of Silver Spring, Md. Brother-in-law of Yvonne and Skip Wollenberg of Teaneck, N.J. and Thomas Chilik of Las Vegas, Nev., as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Trinity Park, Scituate. Visiting hours will be held at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on Friday from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of John to South Shore Hospital Cancer Care Programs, c/o South Shore Hospital Charitable Foundation, 55 Fogg Rd., Weymouth, MA 02190.
