John F. Sheehan, 86 LEOMINSTER -- John F. Sheehan, 86, a longtime area resident and owner of Maplewood Valley Apartments in Fitchburg, died Saturday, April 25, in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, after a long illness.He leaves his wife of 23 years, Joan F. (Freda) Sheehan; two daughters, Eileen Sheehan, and her husband Donald Bingham of Fitchburg, and Karen Wittmier, and her fiancé Darren Marcil of Leominster; five stepchildren, Robert 'Chis' Kumph, and his wife Daryl of New Ipswich, NH, Sharon Schick, and her husband Kevin of Harried, South Dakota, Dana Kumph, and his wife Marybeth of Jaffrey, NH, Brian Kumph, and his wife Ann of Kennebunk, ME and Carole Brasili, and her husband John of Ashburnham; two grandchildren, Christopher Wittmier, and his wife Melanie, and Shawn Wittmier; one great-granddaughter, Claire A. Wittmier; eleven step grandchildren, Allison Russell, and her husband Robert, Christopher Bingham, and his wife Tracey, Heather Chadinha, Melanie, Travis, Tyler and Jacob Kumph, Lacy Berg, Kolby Kosel, and Mario and John Brasili; six step great-grandchildren, Emily and Kaitlyn Russell, Jaxon Brasili, Elijah Machen, Rowan Ducharme and Maggie Kosel. He was predeceased by siblings, Maygoe T., Francis and Philip Sheehan and Agnes Gallagher and Jane Flood.Mr. Sheehan had been the owner and manager of the Maplewood Valley Apartments, and other local rental properties in Fitchburg, for many years. He also was the owner of The Wood Turning Shop in Ashburnham for many years. He previously had worked at Crocker Field, the former Bergeron Paper Box Co., and the former Selig Co. in Leominster and former Asher Pants in FitchburgJohn was known to be quite a storyteller. He was an inventor, stock car race driver. John cared for his parents for many years. He took pride in auto restoration and property renovation, and was a mentor to many people. He attended Fitchburg High School and was an Electrician Apprentice. John was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Leominster. He loved big band music, dancing, airplanes, and science fiction.He was born in Fitchburg, on June 24, 1928, a son of the late Maygoe F., and Mary (Moran) Sheehan.SHEEHAN -- John's Funeral will be held on Thursday April 30, from The Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster, MA.Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster.Calling hours at the Funeral Home are on Wednesday, April 29, from 3 to 7 p.m.Please visit www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net for further information.
