John A. Kelley , 89 years old, a resident of Framingham for over sixty years died on Monday December 26, 2011 at the Lowell General Hospital in Lowell. Born in Dorchester, son of the late Edward and Katherine (Donovan) Kelley, he was the husband of the late Catherine (McCarthy) Kelley who died in September of 2005. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was employed as a jeweler and gemologist from 1946 to 1989 for Jordan Marsh and EB Horne of Boston. John was an avid sports fan, athlete and accomplished artist. He excelled as a runner having run the Boston Marathon many times and was the winner of the first Falmouth Road Race in 1938. In addition, he enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of St. Marks Golf Club, Southborough. He loved horses and belonged to the Mounted Calvary at Camp Edwards. He is survived by three sons, John A. Kelley Jr. and his wife Rita of Acton; Neil C. Kelley and his wife Kathleen of Uxbridge and Eugene P. Kelley and his wife Leslie of Marston Mills, Cape Cod; one daughter, Nancy C. Lyons of Framingham; one brother, Francis Kelley of Florida; four sisters, Frances Varriale of Weston, Patricia White of Weston, Joan Hannon of Cambridge and Eleanor Foley of Shrewsbury, eleven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Edward Kelley Jr., Eugene Kelley, Elizabeth Barter, Mildred Kelley and Rosemary Kelley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday December 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridgets Church, 830 Worcester Road (Rte 9 E), Framingham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Stephens Cemetery in Framingham. Calling hours at the Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home 11 Lincoln Street, Framingham will be on Thursday December 29, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johns memory may be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108
