Obituary of John A. Kelley


John A. Kelley -->John A. Kelley, beloved husband of Mary, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Tremont Skilled Care Center, Wareham after a long illness. John was born and raised in Plymouth, graduating from Plymouth High School in 1942. In 1944 John joined the Army Air Corp, becoming a pilot shortly before the end of WW II. He then attended Berkeley College of Music, majoring in trumpet. Upon graduation John moved to NYC where he began his ten year professional music career as an admired trumpeter, traveling across the country and abroad, playing with popular swing bands. After 10 years of travel, John decided to change direction. He began studies at Brooklyn College, NYC where he graduated with a B.A. degree. John then returned to Plymouth, continuing his education at Bridgewater State Teachers' College, receiving his Masters degree in history in 1972. John taught history at the Plymouth Middle School many years and retired in 1988, moving to Carver. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the United Parish of Carver, Main St. In lieu of flowers,contributions may be made to the "Wounded Warriors Project".
