Obituary of John-Ronald Waldron

John Ronald Waldron October 27, 1936 - September 20, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) WALDRON, John Ronald - 67, Halifax. It is with deep sadness that the family of John Waldron announces his passing at home on September 20, 2004, after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. Born in England, he was the son of the late Gordon and Johanna (Clauset) Waldron. John immigrated to Canada in 1958, married and raised three sons while enjoying a successful and lengthy career with American Standard retiring in 1993. John's nautical passion and expertise were legendary. He was twice commodore of the Armdale Yacht Club. John taught coastal navigation for 25 years, making many novice sailors safer in our waters. John generously contributed proceeds from this course to the Armdale Yacht Club Junior Sailing program. He also spent a number of years with the Canadian Marine Rescue Auxiliary (CMRA). His commitment and love for helping others was evident in the enthusiasm he displayed when responding to rescue calls. One of John's greatest pleasures was skippering his boat, and his family and friends are blessed with many happy memories of their time spent aboard the "Melag". John is survived by his loving partner, Ann Kyle; sons, Rob (Marguerite), Mike (Susan), Chris (Naomi); grandchildren, Ben, Luc, and Grace; sister, Margaret Cartwright, Belfast; niece, Susan Griffiths, England; nephews, John and Jeremy Cartwright, Belfast; and former wife, Joan Waldron. John was a notable man, full of energy and charm. He gave generously of his time to family and friends and was always there when called apon. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 22, from 6-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on Thursday, September 23, at 2 p.m. in Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Ave., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armdale Yacht Club Junior Sailing program. A very special thank you to the Palliative Care and Victorian Order of Nurses staff who helped make John's last days both dignified and comfortable.
