Obituary of John Matthews

John Douglas MATTHEWSFebruary 12, 1935 - December 4, 2015An extremely positive outlook allowed John to progress through the stages of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis with humour and grace. He said that he was lucky to have reached the age of 80 and he had enjoyed a good life. Left to enjoy the wonderful memories are his spouse Sandy Cooper, daughters Gayle Matthews and Debbie Palmer (Paul Kos), grandchildren Jess and Matt Palmer, siblings Carolyn (the late Jim Kelly), Bob (Marie Kovacs), Judy (Bob Paterson), sister and brother-in-law, Lynda and Jim Kellam, as well as many special friends, nieces and nephews. John''s career as a civil engineer began in Toronto in construction, then moved into municipal work in East York, Fort Erie and Milton. He loved flying and golf and enjoyed many fun years at the cottage in Haliburton, as well as numerous trips with friends and family. We wish to express our sincere thanks for all the support and care John received from his health care teams. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please consider a donation to the Dorothy Ley Hospice, a gift to a charity of your choice or have a nice dinner and raise a glass to John. We are holding a celebration of John''s life on January 7th at 1:30 p.m. at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ON, 905-257-8822. Personal reflections and eulogy commencing at 3 p.m.Online condolences and memories can be shared through www.glenoaks.ca
