Obituary of Frederick-Joseph-George-Jr Wallace

WALLACE JR., FREDERICK - With sadness, after a battle with cancer fought with the utmost courage and dignity, the family announces the death of Frederick Joseph George Wallace Jr., 76, of Saint John, NB at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 21st, 2007. Born on November 24th, 1930, in Randolph, Saint John West, NB, Frederick Jr. was the eldest son of the late Frederick Sr. and the late Diana (LeBlanc) Wallace. Fred is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Patricia Lillian (O'Hara) Wallace; his only son, Jordan Wallace (Kathleen Coughlan-Wallace) of Florida; his daughters, Jillian Wallace and Julie Wallace, both Saint John. He is also survived by his brothers, Francis, Raymond, George and James (Rose) Wallace, all of Saint John. In addition, he is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives were able to fulfill Fred's wish to meet a special niece, Madeline, prior to his death. In addition to his parents, Fred was also predeceased by his brothers, Albert and Clarence; his sister, Theresa Wallace; his sister-in-law, Norma Wallace; his nephews, Raymond Wallace Jr., Douglas Wallace; and infant niece, Elaine Wallace. Fred resided his entire life in Saint John West. He retired from Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. in 1992, after 32 years of service. Prior to, and after his retirement, he and his wife Pat, traveled to many destinations around the world. Fred genuinely enjoyed playing the accordion throughout his life. He was also an avid bowler. In 1998, and 2003, respectively, he was the only bowler at Fundy Lanes to reach the milestones of being awarded plaques in recognition of 50 years and 55 years of bowling in the Fundy Men's House League. Unbeknownst to most, with the exception of family and a few close friends, while en route to a bowling tournament in Edmunston, NB, in the early seventies, he, along with fellow bowlers (recollected to include Al von Richter, Buddy McGillivray, the late Tim Gerrior, the late George McKay and the late Bill Speight) witnessed a plane crash. Although the pilot unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in the crash, Fred, and all of his fellow teammates were able to rescue the remainder of the passengers from the plane. A monument is erected at the site of the crash to this day. Out of respect for his late father, Frederick Wallace Sr., who was a Gunner in WWII; and for all veterans, Fred was a loyal associate member of Legion Branch 69. He was also a longtime and faithful parishioner of the Assumption Church. Fred was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word to family, friends and strangers. Although he will be greatly missed, his life and legacy will forever remain in our hearts and minds. We would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital in the Radiation and Oncology Dept., Emergency Dept., 5C South and Palliative Care who cared for Fred during the course of his illness. We are extremely grateful to family and friends who helped ease, even if only momentarily, Fred's suffering, with their visits, gifts and prayers. Thank you all. Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 23rd, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday January 24th, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday January 25th, 2007 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church.
