Obituary of Carol Kirby


Carol S. S. (Slattery) Kirby, 67, a lifelong Marlborough resident, died Monday, October 22, 2012 after living with lung cancer for the past year. Born and raised in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Deputy Fire Chief F. Raymond Slattery and Clarice Louise (Daoust) Slattery, and the wife of the late William R. Kirby, Sgt. MPD, who died in 2002. Following her graduation from St. Annes Academy in 1963, she enlisted in the US Air Force, where she served as an administration specialist and was named Miss Lackland Air Force Base. Until she became ill in October 2011, she had been employed as a bartender at the Moose Lodge, Marlborough, where she is being remembered for her dry sense of humor, her unfailing wit, her unusual perspective on life and especially her Unique Friday Rituals. She had formerly been employed at Marlborough High School in the cafeteria. She loved to cook, garden, lighthouses, never missed her soaps, and never wanted to be a bother to anyone. She is survived by her son, William R. Kirby, Jr., of Marlborough, her brother, Alan P. Slattery and his wife Regina of Marlborough, her sister, Sandra DeLong, of Marlborough and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Matthias Church, 400 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Beach St., Marlborough, MA. Visiting hrs.will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4-7 pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA.
