Obituary of Arthur-Vernon Webster


WEBSTER, Arthur Vernon (Vern) - born 90 years of age passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Dad bravely and courageously, took his last breath on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Husband of the late Belva Mae Webster, beloved father of Lynn Tremblay (Ron), Cornwall; Cathy Jamsa (Simo), Thunder Bay; Patrice McDonald, Kingston; Brent Webster (Michele) and Jennifer all of Ottawa. Sadly missed by eight grandchildren and 10 [great grandchildren]: Natalie Primeau (Marc) [Aaron, Ethan, Ryan & Dustin]; Lisa Friesen (Tyler) [Cooper and Quinn Arthur Vernon]; Michael Gagnon, Sheri Gagnon; Tammy Onland (Michael), [Michaela & Michael]; Stacey Hartley (Todd) [Rylee and Matthew]; Candice Webster and Philip Webster. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lillian (Heath) Webster, and his sister, Eileen Cochrane. Dad was born on October 31, 1917, grew up in Milles Roches, Ontario and graduated from Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS). He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in May 1940 and was honourably discharged on September 24, 1945. He married Belva Mae Webster (RCAF) on February 11, 1946 in Ottawa. They moved to Cornwall and started their family there. Dad resumed his duties back at Cornwall Motor Sales until his retirement in 1982. Dad was a Charter Member of Cornwall Wing 424 RCAFA, held significant leadership positions and was recognized provincially and nationally for his work within this Association (received the Meritorious Service Award in 1990). He was also involved in the community and partnered with the Kiwanis Club in sponsoring Cornwall's Air Cadet Squadron. He and Dr. Lefebvre were instrumental in starting up services for people with developmental disabilities, now known as Community Living - Stormont County. He was a Scout Leader during the 1950s, attended Trinity Anglican Church where he taught Sunday school, served on Parish Council, and was instrumental in the planning and the operation of the Beek Lindsay House. His hobbies included fishing, wine making, quiet visits to the quarry and researching family genealogy which included a trip to Worksop, Nottingham. Dad enjoyed the challenge of mastering the computer and keeping in tough through emails. While living at McConnell Manor, he enjoyed playing scrabble, watching movies, participating in sing alongs and watching the new addition being built outside his window. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the nurses and staff at McConnell Manor and the nursing staff at the Dialysis Unit at the Cornwall General who supported and provided care to Dad. He enjoyed all of your company and talked of you often. Resting at the WILSON FUNERAL HOME 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, from 2 PM Thursday June 19th. Funeral service will be celebrated in Trinity Anglican Church on Friday June 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM. The Venerable Frank Kirby and Reverend Jessica Worden celebrants. Visitation Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Friday 9-10:30 AM. Committal at a later date in St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery, Long Sault. If so desired charitable donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church Restoration Fund, 105 Second Street West, Cornwall, Ontario, K6J 1G4 or the Dialysis Unit through the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation, 840 McConnell Avenue, Cornwall, Ontario K6H 5S5 AD ASTRA (To The Stars) Dad! Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 and R.C.A.F.A Wing 424 are requested to assemble at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday June 19, 2008 at 7:00 PM for a Tribute to their Late Comrade Vern Webster.
