Obituary of Alice C. Keating


FITCHBURG -- Alice C. (Nowd) Keating, 89, of 69 Warren St., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, in her home, after being stricken ill. She was born in Fitchburg, on June 10, 1915, the daughter of the late Christopher and Mary (Heffernan) Nowd, and lived here all of her life. Mrs. Keating worked along with her husband, Joseph P. Keating, in his accounting business on Main Street in Fitchburg for many years. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish in Fitchburg, the Daughters of Isabella, Jeanne D’Arc Circle, and was a 1933 graduate of St. Bernard’s High School. Mrs. Keating leaves four nephews, James C. Nowd of Hollywood, Fla., Robert Nowd of Maynard, Thomas M. Nowd of Lunenburg, and Brian McDonald of Chelmsford; one niece, Sheila Gibbons of Worcester; and many grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins. Her husband of 57 years, Joseph P. Keating, died in 1998. She was predeceased by two brothers, Christopher Nowd and Joseph Nowd, and one sister, Ann McDonald. KEATING -- On Feb. 22, Alice C. (Nowd) Keating, 89, of Fitchburg. The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, from the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net), 763 Mass Ave., Lunenburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, Feb. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to the St. Bernard’s Parish Renovation Fund, 240 Water St., Fitchburg, MA 01420, or may be left at the funeral home.
