Alfred A. Daniels, 85 of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Alfred was born in Adams, MA., on March 10, 1929, the son of the late Arthur and Clara (Perreault) Daniels. He was employed by Lee Way Freight Lines and retired in 1989 after thirty-two years of service. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Alfred was an avid sports fan and supporter of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and the New York Giants. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by his son Mark R. Daniels in 2008, two brothers Lawrence Daniels and Arthur Daniels, and a sister Arlene Kostopolus. Alfred is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years Jane (Wirstrom) Daniels of Springfield, a daughter Lisa J. Daniels of Springfield, a daughter-in-law Deborah Daniels of Ludlow, a granddaughter Caitlyn M. Daniels who was the light of his life. He also leaves a sister Rose LeMoine of Palmer, and his sisters in-law, Sandra Wirstrom of Willmington, VT, Nancy Daniels of Agawam and Claire Daniels of Belchertown, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alfreds family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the Comfort Care Unit at the Holyoke Soldiers Home for the wonderful and dignified manner in which they cared for him. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 4p.m 8p.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home 1858 Allen St, Springfield, MA 01118. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11a.m at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield.
